March 26, 2021 – Vaughan, Ontario
Giovanni (John) Cocciardi, Co-founder, Owner of M+CC Modular & Custom Cabinets (MCC Dental), and dental industry visionary, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021.
Giovanni Cocciardi arrived in Toronto, Canada, from Panni, Italy in 1961. From that moment, he started working for a large furniture company building cabinets. His craftsmanship stood out and had attention. Sooner than later, someone asked Giovanni along with a colleague to apply his design and woodworking talents to help create dental furniture.
As a result, after a year, the two of them struck out on their own. A sales representative supported and encouraged them to build their own company. As a result, it wasn’t long before M+CC Modular & Custom Cabinets began working directly with distributors and after a few years, the company started to grow, with their product been distributed to both U.S. and Canadian dental offices.
MCC Dental Now
As can be seen today, M+CC Modular & Custom Cabinets are known for quality craftsmanship, functionality, value, and innovation in the North American dental cabinet industry. In this fashion, the company has been responsible for many industry ‘firsts’.
Recently, in interviews during 2017, Giovanni reflected, “Every year, we learned and created something new. We always kept the needs of dentists at the centre of any new product development. People have always trusted in our service.”
With this in mind, Giovanni enlisted the support of his five sons while they were growing up. His children came to the company after school to help with odd jobs. Hard work and ethics started in simple tasks like sweeping the shop floor, and their responsibilities grew over time.
Eventually, Giovanni’s sons would take over the business. Today, M+CC Modular & Custom Cabinets is run by four out of five of Giovanni’s sons. “I am proud of all of them”, Giovanni said during his 50th anniversary year, “The four sons that run the business today and the fifth son, who has made his own career.”
Honoring Giovanni
Giovanni’s lifelong passion and dedication to serving the dental industry will always remain.
“Until recently, our father came to work every day to offer his guidance and wisdom.
Prior to Covid-19, our father often was on the sales floor at conventions. There, he talked to dental customers about their needs, learning at every opportunity. He was a true, life-long learner”, say Giovanni’s sons.
Graziella Cocciardi, his five sons, and his 11 grandchildren survive Giovanni Cocciardi. In lieu of flowers, his bereaved family encourage people to make donations in Giovanni’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society.
